Typically used in stainless steel and other soft metals and create a larger diameter of pressure during fastener installation. The larger diameter helps to spead pressure over the material preventing pull through. Zinc plated steel rivet backup washers are corrosion resistant with a shiny finish.
Always use the same material for rivet and backup washer.
